👋 Hey <!channel>! We’ve just done some housekeeping in Slack to clean things up a bit and help focus channel topics.
The big one is renaming this channel to
#announcements and limiting who can post in it. This is a pattern many other slack groups have followed and I think it makes sense for the Meltano community as well.
I also want to highlight a few changes to other channels here as well, but of course we
have an issue you can peruse as well 😄
For Meltano related channels, we’ve gone with a no prefix strategy. This means channels like
#docker #windows #kubernetes #development #contributing #troubleshooting #best-practices etc will be mainly about those topics in the context of
meltano. For the plugins and tools that Meltano integrates with, we’re using a prefix strategy. The big one, given our currently focus, is singer. Right now we have the following Singer-specific channels:
•
#singer-taps - A new channel for general discussion of Taps
•
#singer-targets - A new channel for general discussion of Targets
•
#singer-saas-targets - Renaming of a channel for SaaS API Singer Targets
•
#singer-sdk - Renaming of a channel for discussion of the SDK
•
#singerhub - For discussion about the upcoming SingerHub
•
#singer-batch-messages - For discussion of a proposed
BATCH message extension
We’ll follow a similar pattern in the future as the product grows and expands. For now we have a catchall
#plugins-general channel for discussion of all other plugins like Dagster, Great Expectations, etc. We have made
#plugins-dbt though for specific discussion of dbt as a plugin. We can see how these plugin channels go and continue to iterate on the strategy here if the community feels strongly about something 🙂
Have any feedback on this? Any other ideas? Let us know in a thread 👇 or in
this issue.
Thanks everyone for being a part of this great community!
