Only just saw this. I'm a huge visidata user and this is exciting. https://www.visidata.org/blog/2022/connect-visidata-to-sql-databases-with-vdsql/

Oh this looks cool! cc @Sven Balnojan for the codespace stuff maybe? 😇

@christoph - I haven't used this before but I see it is Pip installable. Do you think this would make a good Hub utility for other Meltano users? And if yes, is it something you might be interested to help contribute?
c
I'll gladly add it as a utility to the hub once I've given it a spin ... my first attempt at
vdsql
with MySQL/Mariadb failed ... 😁 .... I'll test some of the other DBs and if I get a good success rate, I'll raise a PR.
a
Exciting! This is brand new to me personally but from the link and the demo video there, it looks like a very powerful and useful utility. It looks like it should be feasible to register a single
visidata
Meltano utility that installs and registers commands for both
vd
and
vdsql
. Let us know if we can help at all!
c
visidata on its own has been a tool that has been indispensable to me for years now when it comes to looking at things like REST API JSON response from
curl
... exploring files like
.tsv
,
.csv
,
.xlsx
etc. ... and I use it as my local Postgres exploration tool as well The new
vdsql
package is new to me and has the benefit of not needing to load the whole SQL result set into memory, which is pretty neat for doing more serious work with larger datasets. I'll keep you posted how I go with
vdsql
.

Very cool. Would also make a great #C01QS0RV78D topic if you want to bring there. (Although I recognize it's probably horrible for your timezone.)

Office hours is an async event for me ... 😂
I still feel the same level of engagement when I watch the replays though. 😉

Oh man, that's awesome to hear.
