The good news is it isn't really a standard at all. It just hacks your `$PATH` to keep you from messing with that whole mess of system Python and various Anaconda installations and whatever else. All you're able to access with Pyenv installed is the disposable Python installations and environments it provides. Something became a mess? Easy - just delete it and install a replacement.

It's not a cure-all by any means, but it's a lot better than how things used to be.
