Does anyone know if the usage stats collected by Meltano/Singer are available anywhere?
a
We don't make those public. What are you trying to see?
p
@thomas_briggs we do push usage metrics back to MeltanoHub via MeltanoStats on the plugin pages like https://hub.meltano.com/taps/google-analytics
t
@thomas_briggs what would you like to see / understand? I’m all for sharing more data with the community where it makes sense 🙂
a
Same! If we can anonymize it a bit I'd be down to share
t
Thanks all. While my evaluation of Meltano is based on the technology, management is interested in things like adoption, sustainability, etc. Given that it's all open source I don't worry so much about that but not everyone shares that perspective. So I was hoping the usage stats would be something I could point to and say "10,000 people a day can't be wrong..."
a
We definitely have some pretty graphs. @taylor @pat_nadolny What's the best way to share those?
t
I see stats for very few plugins, BTW... the MySQL tap doesn't show any, for example, but I know for a fact that it's being executed a hundred times a day. 😉 I checked the machine I'm running Meltano on and it can hit google-analytics.com, so at least for me it's not a firewall blocking the data collection... 🤔
s
How about "A slack channel with nearly 2,200 members can't be wrong..." 😄
p
@thomas_briggs interesting, that might be a bug. I created an issue to look into it https://gitlab.com/meltano/squared/-/issues/76
t
Thanks @pat_nadolny. @scott_goering you're right, the Slack community is as good as the software! 🥳

@amanda.folson I thought we had some numbers already on the main website about projects and command executions. I can’t seem to find that. @thomas_briggs some additional context on the stats is we make it dead simple to turn off usage stats, so any numbers we have are definitely undercounting already. We currently have over 2k active projects sending us data and we assume there are more than that who aren’t sending us data. I think we had on the website too that we’re seeing hundreds of thousands of elt runs as well.
