I’m very impressed with the M1 Pro MBP so far! My old one did not like my habit of having 10+ Firefox and 5 VS Code windows open at all time (across different desktops), but this machine couldn’t seem to care less 🚀
t
Very nice! Any problems installing Meltano? 🙂
d
@taylor Haven’t gotten that far yet 😄

Yeah I like that I can have a bunch of crap open now. I had some Docker stuff running as well as Logic Pro and a video game and it didn't even flinch
It still crashes randomly but at least it's happening less

Some what frequently if i minimize something while using my laptop stand alone, and then later try to pull it up at my desk while the macbook is in clamshell mode, it wont work and the app wont un-minimize. I think it might be trying to un-minimize and render on the laptop screen rather than the external monitor.
That's probably the most annoying thing i've run into.
a
That happens to me on the iMac too fwiw. There are several things that never un-minimize and I have to command tab to open them again
t
Really want an M1 Pro but in a smaller form factor. I like small laptops that I can plug lotsa external monitors into, and the M1 MBA is limited to only one external.

I’m running this: 😢

Starting to get into that, but I do it very poorly haha. I mostly record raw stuff and send it to someone else to mix. Been working with a local band to record their EP 😅

I have a 13" MBP M1 (not the latest Pro versions). No issues with meltano/dbt/python, though I run all of that under rosetta because not all packages have M1 builds yet. The most annoying thing so far has been with the hit or miss M1 docker builds. For example, since the official postgres images are built with Github Actions, they don’t (as of a month or so ago, last i checked) have an M1 build for the postgres image. But you can work around that by copying their dockerfiles and building locally
a
Yeah I've had to do that for a few things. It's annoying to figure it all out at first but you get the hang of it

@amanda.folson Awesome! I've been doing it for a while now - gone through FL Studio and Logic Pro, now using Ableton Live! If you want to share, I'd love to hear some of your stuff. 😄
a
Definitely! I haven't actually released anything but I'll let you know when these dudes release something! I've done some vocals and minor rhythm guitar parts for them but it's not really "mine" 😅 I've created #C02R1UY5P8S if you want to share stuff you're working on
r
Haha, awesome!

looks like Rancher Desktop finally works with the m1's as of last night!
Just took 7.0 for a spin and seems to work great. (if anyones looking for a Docker alt)
