random question, is meltano moving to github instead of gitlab? Isn’t meltano started by gitlab?

Nah, it's a fair question! Right now things are split between the two. We're trying to move some of the more community-facing non-Meltano projects to GitHub while keeping some of the Meltano project things on GitLab. For example, some of the Singer-specific stuff that the community might work on would be there instead of on GitLab as people are likely more familiar with GitHub. Ideally we'd pick one and stick with it, but we recognize that more of the community is developing on GitHub while a lot of our internal workflows are specific to GitLab. Working on that in stages but definitely open to feedback on this
