oh wow! super interesting how Snowflake went all in on sharing and now Delta Lake. I don’t have a good sense for how many people actually want this features 😅

Very cool, @edgar_ramirez_mondragon. I’d missed this. I do expect we’ll see more Spark->Spark and Snowflake->Snowflake connections mapped directly in dbt’s source.yml declarations.

this is super smart honestly…

Yeah - what’s super compelling about the Spark context is that (presumably) it doesn’t require an account creation per se - in the fashion that Snowflake requires some kind of connectivity and have therefor created their snowflake ‘reader accounts’ paradigm. I can see why they both want to race to be the ‘primary’ or ‘core’ data platform around which the others rely. Sharing is going to be a big part of that.

That's right @aaronsteers. I can imagine some app analytics providers (fullstory, heap, etc.) sharing directly to your data (ware|lake)house. That'd make people's lives easier
a
Totally!
In a past life (not very long ago!) I was a Snowflake trainer and it is very easy to pitch the value of partner->consumer and partner->partner data sharing at rest.
I think the open auth story here is super compelling. I’ll want to learn more about this for sure.
