I think this is mostly a dbt question but when I run
elt tap-mytap target-mytarget --transform only
I see the following where I would expect my models to be run
Copy code
dbt | Running with dbt=0.16.1
dbt | Found 18 models, 0 tests, 0 snapshots, 0 analyses, 149 macros, 0 operations, 0 seed files, 0 sources
dbt | WARNING: Nothing to do. Try checking your model configs and model specification args
meltano | INFO Transformation complete!
I see in most of the pre-built dbt packages that there is a
base/
and
transform/
directory under
models/
(e.g. https://gitlab.com/meltano/dbt-tap-stripe/-/tree/master/models). The custom package I created only has one set of models directly under
/models
and they don't reference one another (using
ref()
) although they do have the tables they select from hardcoded within them. I'm new to dbt so I'm wondering if this is related to the fact that I'm not 'transforming' from any 'base' models but I don't understand why this would be necessary.
d
@tyler_kahn Base models aren't necessary, any models should work. Are you storing your own models in
transform/models
or in a separate package referenced from
transform/pckages.yml
and/or
meltano.yml
?
If you run with
meltano --log-level=debug elt
, you should see the exact command dbt is invoked with including its
--models
argument, which gets its value from this setting: https://gitlab.com/meltano/meltano/blob/master/src/meltano/core/bundle/discovery.yml#L1620 It appears that that
--models
argument is not currently matching any of the models in your dbt project.

Thanks that led me to the issue. The solution was just to move the models directly into the
transform/
directory. Is there a way to specify the specific transforms that should be run with a pipeline? Right now it seems to be tied to the extractor
