Hey everybody, I’m juuuust starting to dig into meltano and it seems really cool. That being said, I have some very basic Qs as I set up, so thanks for your patience. Once I set up a new project, can I make changes directly in meltano.yml, or should I do everything through the CLI? If yes, are there limitations? ie. I can make config changes but not name namespace changes?

I’ve done both, I recommend using CLI whenever possible IMO. I found myself editing the wrong config file once, etc the meltano project folder has a lot of files so
the CLI commands are nice that way
and I can scroll back the shell history too this way 🙂
just my 2 cents

ah okay. I am only seeing config settings go to meltano.yml but I haven’t even tried an extract, so I’ll keep an eye out. Thank you!

@steven_weinstein You can definitely make changes directly to
meltano.yml
, but using the
meltano
CLI is often more convenient. In the end, the CLI just reads/writes from/to
meltano.yml
though, and that's the full definition of your project that you'd check into version control.
