@douwe_maan I am trying to set up the bing ads tap right now and I can't seem to get the config to populate off of my env vars. Is there something special I need to do to use env vars with custom taps?
d
@nevin_morgan Nope, if the env vars are listed in
meltano config <extractor> list
, setting them should work right away
I assume you listed all of the settings in the
settings:
prompt of
meltano add --custom
?
Can you share the plugin's definition in
meltano.yml
?
n
ahhhhhh I didn't run list and the name for the env vars is different than what I entered in .env
d
Did the names not match what you expected them to be?
n
my meltano.yml file is empty for some reason. Not sure if that should be the case or not. Yeah they make sense looking at them I just added tap_ to the front
d
my meltano.yml file is empty for some reason.
Well that's certainly not right, since all of the
meltano add
and
meltano config
write directly to that file...
Are you 100% sure it's empty? If it is, few Meltano features should work at all
n
yeah, the meltano.yml file is empty in my project directory
d
@nevin_morgan But
meltano config tap-bing list
works?
n
yup
I thought running the meltano commands would populate the file as I added taps etc
d
That blows my mind, because that command reads directly from
meltano.yml
...
I thought running the meltano commands would populate the file as I added taps etc
It definitely should
And
meltano.yml
should be populated automatically by
meltano init
as well
@nevin_morgan Wanna jump on a quick call so we can figure out what we're missing? Because I have no explanation
n
sure
d
@nevin_morgan Thanks 🙂 https://gitlab.zoom.us/my/gitlab.douwemaan
We figured it out:
meltano.yml
wasn't actually empty, but VSCode was showing it as if it was because of a permissions issue.
n
solid debugging of other peoples code lol. Sorry for not thinking of that before taking up your time @douwe_maan
d
@nevin_morgan No worries, always happy to connect with users and community members 🙂
