Hi all, I'm just trying out Meltano for the first time. I set it up using the one click Digital Ocean droplet installer. I was trying to install a custom tap (tap-surveymonkey) so I went into the
/var/meltano/project
dir and did
meltano add --custom extractor
then followed the prompts. This seemed to do mess up the
meltano.yml
file and when I refreshed I got a 500 error. Where are logs located? Is this the wrong way to install a custom tap?

Hey @al_whatmough! The
meltano add --custom extractor
command indeed updates the
meltano.yml
file with the new extractor. But you have to then make some additional updates on your end. Can you please check our Tutorial on how to add
tap-postgres
? https://meltano.com/tutorials/postgres-with-postgres.html We also have documentation on adding a custom extractor in general in the following link: https://meltano.com/tutorials/create-a-custom-extractor.html
The logs for Meltano UI are currently in the terminal window that you are running
meltano ui
from. We are going to add them in separate files by next release (https://gitlab.com/meltano/meltano/issues/1205)
If you can check first with the full cli flow. If everything works without issues, then check and provide me with any errors you get in Meltano UI

Thanks @yannis_roussos ! I had a look at the tap-postgres gudie. Since I'm using the Digital Ocean quick start, I already have a project set up by default so do I not need to follow the steps to create a new project using meltano init? I guess if I did that I'd have two meltano.yml files
y
Yes no need to create a new project
Unfortunately the process to add a custom extractor needs cli access and/or access to
meltano.yml
so it is not that great of an experience on a droplet as it is currently.

That makes sense - thanks for the explanation. Droplet is a nice way to quickly get up and running and try it out. For development I'll set up a different instance
