Hi all! I am having some disturbing issue with my meltano project. I can only see loaders, extractors and pipeline tabs. On the demos on youtube, I see analyze, dashboards…. I do not know how what to do to bring the other tabs. I have been stuck with this for about a day

Hi @suleiman_deni Sorry to hear you've spent a day on something that doesn't exist! The models, reports and dashboards are gone - https://gitlab.com/meltano/meltano/-/issues/3293 @taylor has been writing about the vision for DataOps and solving all the data management issues for engineers. That and there's loads of great tools for DIY visualisation / BI, makes sense to focus of course. I'd be delighted if you wanted try our service that creates and manages a Meltano project (we give you the git repo access to it) and we deploy the taps, dbt models, visualisations, run the schedules, but don't lock you in to our service - https://www.matatika.com/docs/ We loved what Meltano were doing with DataOps and thought we could help the people who didn't need to or want to run the stack.

@aaron_phethean Do you think this is it? I think this issue is to be done for 2.0 - I am still on 1.98 I also see that transform is not there
a
Yeah, that part of the 'meltano ui' was removed a few releases ago. That issue is just there to update the docs so people don't get confused when its not there anymore!
There's been a lot happen in the meltano project and dbt transforms are still run by meltano - mainly it was just the UI support they dropped. Including the model - Meltano came from an acryoym: Model Extract Load Transform Analyze Notebooks Orchestrate. They now do: ELTO

Thanks for the information
I am more confused now. What is the point of having a UI if it cannot include dbt and superset. It is impossible for me to see those 😞
e
apache superset is a whole other webapp.. i don't think including it is necessary.. just open another tab
the UI is for people like me who just need to initiate data sourcing jobs and make sure they ran okay
I don't want to fiddle with the terminal
I check the data in apache superset once the job is done (Postgresql)
personally.. my focus is all in apache superset.. and other apps.. I like Meltano because I can set it and forget it..
another GUI to have to watch .. not really on my list of must haves
im curious what would you monitor in DBT?
s
I want to set it and forget but I can’t do that and I do not know why. That is why I am writing here…
I have attached my screenshot. I cannot see anything beyond pipelines, loaders and extractors
I do not understand why!
I wish someone can help
e
I think you're getting frustrated at old documentation ... v1.98 etc do not have any visualizations or dashboards anymore
as the guy earlier stated.. those features are turned off by default and not recommended
if, for some reason you just had to turn them on there is a flag in the setup to bring them back.. but I cannot speak to how well it works.. I do not use it
I too was confused why I didn't have these features.. but generally just ignored it to focus on getting my taps/targets flowing properly
s
That is very clear @emcp ! I will deal with it

@suleiman_deni I'm a little late here but sounds like you may have figured it out. Wanted to drop a link to the Superset file bundle in case you wanted to add it to your project for dashboarding https://gitlab.com/meltano/files-superset
Or Lightdash is another good option - https://gitlab.com/meltano/files-lightdash
