Last week I was able to migrate (šŸ”— PR) my Meltano dogfood project from BigQuery to MotherDuck. All of these plugins already support it, which made it really easy to accomplish: • target-duckdb • dbt-duckdb • Evidence (shout out to @archie_sarre_wood for making a quick PR to add support in Evidence)

This is nice! Question: would not you appreciate implementing DB-specific expressions using dbt macros? You would just extend macros and would not need to change dbt models šŸ˜‰ However, not sure if existing dbt macros support DuckDB. Hope they should, DuckDB dialect is very similar to PostgreSQL.

Oh yeah that'd been nicer!

Well, I just finished a PoC for integrating our GoodData analytics platform with MotherDuck. Unfortunately, even though DuckDB states the similarity with PostgreSQL SQL dialect in their DOC, their dialect is much closer to SQLite ;-( I am going to challenge them continuosly. Meanwhile, someone would have to implement special dbt macros for SQLite dialect. Can be quite complicated esp. in the case of date arithmetic.
