Turns out it’s super easy to add OpenTelemetry auto-instrumentation to Meltano. Now to try it with some real ELT runs 💪🏼 https://meltano.slack.com/archives/CMN8HELB0/p1678472675744039
https://opentelemetry.io/docs/instrumentation/python/automatic/ To do the same:
pip install opentelemetry-distro opentelemetry-exporter-otlp
to install dependencies
opentelemetry-bootstrap -a install
to install the instrumentation libraries that are available for the project (running
opentelemetry-bootstrap
without the
-a install
will list those libraries without installing them). I’m sending trace data to https://www.honeycomb.io/ but there’s a number of destinations you could use. The configuration here is standard across destinations.
opentelemetry-instrument \
    --traces-exporter console,otlp \
    --metrics-exporter console \
    --service_name tap-jaffle-shop \
    --exporter_otlp_endpoint '<https://api.honeycomb.io/>' \
    --exporter_otlp_headers x-honeycomb-team=my-api-key \
    meltano run tap-jaffle-shop target-jsonl
