Is it genius? Is it insanity? You decide. 😉 I just know it solves a problem for us that I couldn't find a solution to elsewhere. https://github.com/tombriggsallego/target-jinja

genius.

Interesting, I've always done this with cookiecutters and a poorly automated process.
The step I'm missing is I want a PR to get automatically pushed up based on some event. In your case it'd be when a new customer is added
t
Is there a target-github? 🤔 🤯
a
I saw a prototype of one but I don't think it ever got any traction
If there's interest in that let's talk!
I think there was some auth weirdness with one of the graphQL endpoints so that may be the reason someone else hasn't picked it up
t
I hadn't been thinking about version control but I can see the utility. In our case the "customers" vary so much by environment (dev, QA, US, EU, etc.) that I'm not worried about versioning the customer-specific files... the real work is done by the macros, which are versioned.
v
target-git
might be easier!
j
It is definitely insanity but I love it!
a
😍 Love it!
s
Love it, you need to write up an example though!
t
Thanks @Sven Balnojan. Define "example"? There's an example described in the readme and some samples included in the repo.
s
I know (just read through it 😄) I mean if you simply enrich that with a bit of dbt & editor screenshots this would make for a nice medium blog post (or Meltano Hack).
t
Ahh. Gotcha. Thanks.
