Has anyone run into this error before with dagster-dbt?
a
Can you run in debug mode at all locally? It sounds like a dict is expected somewhere in at the top level, but
flags
has become a string somewhere along the way
If I had to guess it's the
default_flags
property

Fatal error in launcher: Unable to create process using '"C:\Users\user\Documents\GitHub\datawarehouse\meltano\.meltano\utilities\dbt-snowflake\venv\Scripts\python.exe" "C:\Users\user\OneDrive - Company\Documents\GitHub\datawarehouse\meltano\.meltano\utilities\dbt-snowflake\venv\Scripts\dbt_invoker.exe" debug': The system cannot find the file specified.
I'm getting this error when trying to invoke dbt snowflake locally. I'm wondering if this is linked to it, but my github folder got backed up to onedrive and its screwing a lot of things up. However, the dagster error is coming from my container, so I'm wondering if that's caused by some project config error. I'm unfamiliar with the default_flags property - is that for dagster or for dbt?

I have had similar issues, doesn't look like you running in wsl2? When trying to set up natively on windows I had to move my project to a proper local dir, not onedrive. Then eventually had enough headaches with windows I moved to wsl2
i
so your project is set up in wsl2? how does that work? I have wsl on my computer for docker desktop, but do you then boot up wsl for running all your meltano commands locally?
a
yes there is a wsl2 extension for vscode which is pretty seamless in switching, but you will need to create your project in the ubuntu env. There were many plugins (typically extension utilities) that I found didn't work well on windows, even if meltano and dagster did.
i
is it as simple as downloading the wsl extenstion and then cloning the repo there? what does your directory look like on your command line? like what does the file system look like? is it like C:\Users\WSL?
a
It might be worth starting with a bare repo, installing meltano and the plugins etc to make sure you get the correct linux dependencies. Then you can copy over the contents of your meltano.yml and any other files which should be portable.
I am not superfamiliar with how wsl is implemented, but there is a sort of virtual machine and storage than contains your file system so it looks like a regular linux install, no C: etc.
It's refreshingly simple to work with once installed
i
Okay yeah my linux directory looks very similar. So is your project under ubuntu then? did you have to reinstall python/pip/pipx?
a
yes, you are installing them into wsl so not so much 'reinstalling' as 'installing'
I created a
vscode_projects
subdir in home then created a new project in there using vscode.
i
okay so basically \\wsl.localhost\Ubuntu\home\user\vscode_projects\repository\meltano

and is the extension just "wsl" on vscode?
