#7156 feature: reference `--about` settings from custom SDK based plugins Issue created by pnadolny13 Feature scope CLI (options, error messages, logging, etc.) Description When someone writes a custom SDK plugin and tries to install it into their project they need to manually define their settings in their meltano.yml in order to use them. SDK plugins have a
--about
command that lists all their settings. I propose that at install time we run a
--about
command and cache the available setting. Then for custom plugins we use them if no settings are defined in the meltano.yml. Theres a fair amount of challenges with this around automatically translating --about output to properly plugin definition syntax, particularly related to settings group validation. Additional out of scope idea: • For non-custom plugins this could be used to warn the user if their lock file settings and the setting in their installed plugin python package dont match (i.e. the hub definition is outdated potentially). meltano/meltano
