#3013 Add capability to send notifications on successful/failed executions Issue created by MeltyBot Migrated from GitLab: https://gitlab.com/meltano/meltano/-/issues/3083 Originally created by @edgarrmondragon on 2021-11-27 000022 --- Problem to solve (Summarize the problem we are trying to solve in the form of we need to do [A], so that [B] can [C]) For simple Meltano deployments not relying on Airflow or other orchestrators, it'd be nice if Meltano was able to send notifications through one or more configurable channels (email, Slack, etc.). Target audience (For whom are we doing this? Include a persona) Users of Meltano that don't rely on orchestrators to run Meltano. Further details (Include use cases, benefits, and/or goals) • Failed extractions send an email to the on-call data engineer. • Failed transformations send a push notification to the stakeholder for a dbt model. Proposal (How are we going to solve the problem? Try to include the user journey) There are tools out there like apprise that promise to make it easy to send notifications to arbitrary destinations. We'd want to make it easy to add new notification destinations and different notification frameworks, so this is probably a good candidate to be a reference implementation of a third-party plugin (https://gitlab.com/meltano/meltano/-/issues/3038 and https://gitlab.com/meltano/meltano/-/issues/3080). What does success look like, and how can we measure that? (Define both the success metrics and acceptance criteria. Note that success metrics indicate the desired business outcomes, while acceptance criteria indicate when the solution is working correctly. If there is no way to measure success, link to an issue that will implement a way to measure this) Users can configure notifications to be sent to a number of destinations, based on success, failure, stage of the pipeline. Regression test (Ensure the feature doesn't cause any regressions) • Write adequate test cases and submit test results • Test results should be reviewed by a person from the team Links / references Please note that this was taken from GitLab, to be changed accordingly meltano/meltano
