Hey @douwe_maan, I noticed you’ve been pushing back issue #2299 (https://gitlab.com/meltano/meltano/-/issues/2299) from around Sept 18 to Oct 31. Is this a low priority task or harder than originally thought? I just ask to get a sense on the general timeline and likelihood of success. I’m eager to have E*T*L to modify the table names before being created (so not with DBT)- perhaps a fairly heavy hitting solution.

@john_g Thanks for asking! I don't expect it to be particularly difficult, and I'm looking forward to working on it, but in terms of priority it ranks behind https://gitlab.com/groups/meltano/-/epics/83 and https://gitlab.com/groups/meltano/-/epics/82, and the milestone dates I originally set for these were clearly optimistic. It's still one of my top priorities, as indicated by it having a milestone at all instead of being in the Backlog, but it hasn't risen to the top of the list yet. Note that this is by design, per https://meltano.com/docs/#roadmap:
Be aware that issue milestones serve more as a rough indication of relative priority than as hard deadlines, since short-term priorities can change quickly in response to community feedback, and it's hard to predict how much progress can be made in a week.
The likelihood of success is high, but realistically I expect to get to it in November or maybe even December rather than this month. If you "need" table renames before then, I'd suggest using dbt, or you could consider contributing https://gitlab.com/meltano/meltano/-/issues/2300, which would also enable this without needing to go all the way to https://gitlab.com/meltano/meltano/-/issues/2299 🙂

Hi @douwe_maan - thought I’d check in and see if 2299 might be completed before the end of the month. The task is currently listed as Dec 11, but has been pushed back 10 times. No rush. Just curious for planning purposes. I appreciate what you’re building- don’t let me add to any stress here.

Thanks for checking in! I was actually thinking about this feature and your having asked about it just this morning. Obviously I've been a little optimistic in my estimations, and I don't want to make that same mistake again 🙂 Looking at the board in https://gitlab.com/groups/meltano/-/boards/1933232, I'm hoping to finish up https://gitlab.com/meltano/meltano/-/issues/2390 this week (with tests, documentation, etc), and next week I'll have a few bug fixes and docs updates. I doubt I'll actually get all of that done in the next 2 weeks though, since community activity here and in issues and merge requests also ends up taking an unpredictable (and ever increasing) amount of time. I wouldn't be surprised to see it moved to early January, but if it slips past that I'll definitely start to doubt my own productivity and/or time estimation skills 😄
