Hi! First things first: I did not know that this project existed until today -- and I am super impressed! I thought for a long time that such a tool should exist and be open-source. 🎉 Sadly, I quickly ran into a first issue. For testing purposes, I was creating a gitlab-tap (with UI) and PSQL target. When running the pipeline, I get the error
Copy code
meltano | The requested plugin 'tap-gitlab' is missing.
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/local/lib/python3.6/site-packages/meltano/core/config_service.py", line 88, in find_plugin
    for plugin in self.plugins()
StopIteration
With quick googling I couldn't find anything helpful. Any idea what might be going on? 🙂

Welcome @jonas_b! That error suggests that the
tap-gitlab
plugin was not added to your
meltano.yml
project file yet. Can you check if it shows up in there? I assume you added the plugin to your project using the
Add to project
button in the UI rather than
meltano add extractor tap-gitlab
? That should work just fine, but in general the CLI is more mature than the UI, so I recommend following the steps in https://meltano.com/docs/getting-started.html especially the first time you're using Meltano.

Thank you for your quick reply! I ran
meltano add extractor tap-gitlab
and running the pipeline via Web-UI still fails. Running it via cli does work though. 🙂
Or at least I get a different error message (
BrokenPipeError
-- I'll have to investigate that further).
I guess this means that my target is broken?
d
BrokenPipeError
suggests that the target exited before the tap finished writing records, so your target may be misconfigured. The full ELT output should give some more insight into what exactly went wrong
j
Thank you! Turns out the Postgres target could ont authenticate. 🙂

Thanks @douwe_maan, your comment helped me trackdown my issue
d
@philip_shon I'm glad to hear that! If you think Meltano could do a better job of communicating what was wrong, please consider filing an issue 🙂

I'll be sure to follow up as I get deeper into the weeds 🙂
