I moved my .meltano directory and seem to have lost the venvs for the taps and targets. Anything I try including
meltano install
, returns
No such file or directory: '...../.meltano/extractors/<name>/venv/bin/pip
. Any ideas? Can I reinitialize the missing venvs somehow?
Actually, they are not missing. But
meltano install
reports them missing and errors out
I removed the .meltano directory and reran
meltano install
. Issue resolved. Did I lose anything by blowing away the .meltano dir?

@adam_roderick Can you please file an issue describing exactly what you did and the full error stack traces? Removing the .meltano directory is fine in general, but you’ll have lost any configuration and pipeline state stored in .meltano/meltano.db. In production, you’d be better off using a Postgres DB as your project’s system database to store those details, but that’s not very clearly documented right now.

I'll file an issue. Can you point me to any docs on using the postgres DB in prod to store state?
d
I intend to document that more clearly, and explicitly recommend it for production: https://gitlab.com/meltano/meltano/-/issues/2072, but I’ve been having some trouble finding time to focus on documentation this week
MELTANO_DATABASE_URI and --database-uri are supported on every “meltano” command, including “meltano init”

@douwe_maan I closed the window that had this error message before I created an issue. If it comes up again, I'll create the issue immediately so we have it
