I am very new to using Meltano. I am trying to set up a singer hubspot tap and after stopping meltano ui I am now getting this error that I can't get away from. Any help is greatly appreciated.
(.venv) XOMLT-11511:demo-project akhaitan$ meltano ui

Hi @ashish_khaitan! Since it's failing before even getting into Meltano source code, this looks like an issue with your Python environment rather than anything specific to Meltano. Googling the ``ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'pkg_resources'`` error suggests you may need to reinstall
setuptools
inside the environment using
pip install setuptools
, can you give that a try?
Recreating your virtual environment may also fix things, but I don't know how your venv could have ended up in this broken state
If that doesn't work, I suggest researching the error some more using Google or StackOverflow, because the problem and its solution are unlikely to be specific to Meltano

Thanks @douwe_maan. It looked like there is trouble installing Meltano with Python 3.9 version. I had to reverse my python version to 3.8.6 and things are back in order.
d
Ah, good to know! Can you please create an issue about 3.9 support? I don’t expect it to become a priority for me any time soon, but we can start collecting the problems, and perhaps someone in the community can contribute support :)

@ashish_khaitan is there a tracker for this 3.9 issue to follow? I also ran into an issue w/ Python 3.9 and was a little confusing since the Pypi project says Python 3.9 is supported? https://pypi.org/project/meltano/
d
@arjun_banker Good catch, the
python
dependency is currently incorrect: https://gitlab.com/meltano/meltano/-/blob/master/pyproject.toml#L20. I'll fix that. There's no issue for 3.9 support yet; wanna kick it off and share the error/stacktrace you ran into?
a
sure! will add the error log to that task
d
Please create a new issue 😉 I'll close this one once the dependency is fixed to claim
<3.9
, and we'll need a separate one we can close once 3.9 is actually supported
a
ah right on

yep! attached log & error

Hey! I missed creating the tracker! Thanks for creating the issue!
